Welcome to the Division of Vascular Surgery at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ

The 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Division of Vascular Surgery is a leader in the delivery of vascular surgery care in the Province of Quebec. Clinical services are provided primarily through two hospitals on the Island of Montreal: The 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Health Centre (MUHC) and the Jewish General Hospital (JGH). Across the two sites, more than 1400 vascular surgery procedures are performed annually, and run the spectrum of vascular disease including peripheral arterial, carotid, aortic pathology, dialysis access and trauma. In addition to a large, robust open surgical practice we have a longstanding and active Endovascular Program.

Our surgeons perform both open and endovascular therapy for peripheral arterial occlusive disease, abdominal and thoracic aneurysm, carotid artery occlusive disease as well as endovascular treatment of aortic dissection and traumatic aortic injury. The surgeons at both hospitals provide expert care for open aortic reconstruction, peripheral arterial bypass and carotid endarterectomy as well as fenestrated and branched aortic stent grafts and the endovascular treatment of aortic arch pathology. Our vascular surgeons provide this comprehensive vascular surgical care for most of the western part of the island of Montreal in addition to most of the western and northwestern regions of the Province of Quebec.

The MUHC Vascular Surgery group is located at the MUHC Glen-Site Hospital with an integrated outpatient clinic/Vascular Lab as well as a hybrid endovascular operating suite. The JGH Vascular Surgery group works primarily out of the state-of-the-art K Pavillion with its new operating rooms, hybrid endovascular operating suite as well as a new Vascular Lab adjacent to their surgeon offices, clinic and Vascular Surgery Simulation Center. Our hospital sites are both notable for their very active Non-invasive Vascular Laboratories which, when combined, provide approximately 10,000 non-invasive vascular diagnostic examinations annually.

The 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Vascular Surgery Residency is accredited through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and provides training leading to specialty certification in Vascular Surgery. Residents may enter the program through either the 5 + 0 primary entry pathway via CaRMs or a 5+2 option after general, thoracic or cardiac surgery training. In addition to the Residency, the Division also has a longstanding internally funded 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Advanced Aortic and Peripheral Endovascular Fellowship, which provides trained and certified vascular surgeons the unique opportunity to attain clinical expertise in advanced endovascular reconstruction with a focus on fenestrated/branched endovascular aortic repair, complex peripheral intervention as well as clinical research.

The 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Division employs one full-time Research Associate and two full-time Research Coordinators, each of whom play a vital role in support of our active research program and scholarly initiatives at both hospital sites.

Over the years, our Faculty members have held important leadership positions within the provincial, national and international vascular surgery communities, with 3 past presidents of the CSVS among our current ranks. We have been consistently engaged with the Royal College of Surgeons of Canada Vascular Surgery Specialty Committee as well as with the Quebec Association of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery. Within the last 10-15 years, our vascular surgeons have been recognized for their teaching excellence by 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ and the Department of Surgery with four Postgraduate Surgical Education Awards and four Undergraduate Education Awards. Our graduating residents and fellows have consistently gone on to become leaders in their respective surgical communities and careers.

I am extremely proud of and indeed honoured to play a part in the leadership of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Division of Vascular Surgery.
