Inaugural聽session of聽CRASIES gives students hands-on experience and a broader view of a rapidly growing field聽
When聽Audrey聽Bernier arrived at聽91丝瓜视频鈥檚聽Canadian Radio Astronomy Summer Institute and Extended School (CRASIES) in late May, she already had two years of radio astronomy research experience. What she was looking for was a broader understanding of the field beyond her own work.
鈥淭hrough all of my experiences, I鈥檝e learned little bits and pieces,鈥� said Bernier, who recently completed a degree in physics and computer science at 91丝瓜视频 and will begin a direct-entry PhD at the University of Toronto this fall. 鈥淭his was just like putting all of it together.鈥�
Held May 25-28 at 91丝瓜视频, the inaugural Canadian Radio Astronomy Summer Institute and Extended School (CRASIES) brought together 40 students for four days of lectures, hands-on activities and professional development focused on one of astronomy鈥檚 fastest-growing fields.
Participants learned the fundamentals of radio astronomy, explored its scientific聽applications聽and gained practical experience with instruments and data used in modern astronomical discovery.
