91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ professor Denis Thérien appointed to newly created position

Dr. Heather Munroe-Blum, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ, is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Denis Thérien as Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations). In this newly created position, Professor Thérien will further develop the international dimension of the University.

"We are thrilled to announce the appointment of Professor Thérien to this key position," said Principal Munroe-Blum. "Professor Thérien has a strong understanding of the importance of university research to social and economic development in the global context, and will help 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ continue to further enhance its reputation as one of the leading research-intensive universities in the world."

Professor Thérien will be responsible for facilitating collaborative and interdisciplinary research projects of the highest distinction. He will play an active role in shaping Quebec's and Canada's research agenda, at home and abroad, and in securing greater levels of support for all research activities at the University. Professor Thérien will also lead the efforts of the Office of Technology Transfer to commercialize research and to bring 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ's research, discoveries and inventions to society at large.

A member of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ community since 1978, Professor Thérien is well known for his talent, energy and leadership. As Director of the School of Computer Science since 1997, he has enhanced the school's visibility and achievements through the recruitment of talented faculty and students, and the fostering of value-added collaborations with peer institutions on the world stage.
