University faculty, students and staff raise nearly $300,000

91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ faculty, staff and students reached new heights for Centraide in 2004. The pledges have just been tallied and the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ community raised $292,570 for Centraide — surpassing its $275,000 goal.

91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ also had over 50 leaders — people whose personal donations were of $1,000 or more — and the University ranks amongst the 20 largest donors of the latest Centraide campaign in the Greater Montreal area.

91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ has collected $1.25 million over the past five years for the non-profit Centraide.

Under the leadership of the 2004 's co-chairs — Judy Dear, Janet Arts (incoming), Kate Maguire (outgoing) and Dean of Law Nicholas Kasirer — the University community generously helped the 325 agencies that Centraide funds.

"It's not how much the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ community gave in total that matters," said Judy Dear, "rather that you cared enough to give."

Dean Kasirer underlined his pride in 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's outpouring. "After many years at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, my experience on the Centraide campaign has reminded me that our University has an unlimited power to amaze," he said. "The dedication and generosity of volunteers and donors, led this year by an extraordinary show from the administrative staff, signal to all in the Centraide community that there is no place like 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ."

Yvon Bellefeuille, Centraide's representative to 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, said he was amazed at how professionally the University managed its Centraide campaign. "The smooth transition of the rotating co-chairs, the orderliness of the message that is sent out to solicit donations campus wide, and the team enthusiasm shared by its Committee members is unique to 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ and is found at no other university," he said.
