The 91˿Ƶ Institute for Aerospace Engineering's mission is to foster the next generation of research and educational initiatives in the field of Aeronautics and Astronautics. With over 42 faculty members and 200 graduate students spanning across six departments and three faculties MIAE is engaged in aviation- and space-themed research in the fields of environment, energy, design, and manufacturing. The MIAE community has published more than 700 peer-reviewed articles in leading scientific journals in the last 5 years. Its faculty members have been awarded more than $50M in infrastructure and research funding in the last 10 years.

The 91˿Ƶ Institute for Aerospace Engineering (MIAE) plays a central role in fostering a dynamic and collaborative aerospace community at 91˿Ƶ. It actively supports a wide range of student-led groups and design teams, providing them with visibility, institutional backing, and opportunities to engage in hands-on aerospace innovation. Through these teams, students participate in activities such as aircraft and rocket design, drone development, and international engineering competitions, gaining practical experience that complements their academic training.

In addition, MIAE is closely connected with the aerospace student chapter, which serves as a focal point for student engagement. This chapter organizes events that bring together students from different disciplines who share an interest in aerospace, helping to build a strong interdisciplinary community. These initiatives encourage collaboration, leadership development, and exposure to emerging topics in aerospace engineering.

A major strength of MIAE lies in its integration with Montréal’s vibrant aerospace industrial ecosystem, one of the largest aerospace hubs in the world. The institute regularly organizes networking sessions, industry talks, and career events, enabling students to interact directly with professionals from leading aerospace companies, research organizations, and government agencies. These interactions provide valuable insights into industry trends, facilitate internship and employment opportunities, and help students build professional networks early in their careers.

Furthermore, MIAE hosts the widely recognized seminar series, “Grand Challenges and the Future of Aerospace.” This series brings distinguished speakers from academia, industry, and government to discuss cutting-edge developments and long-term challenges in areas such as sustainable aviation, space exploration, advanced materials, and autonomous systems. The seminars are designed not only to inform but also to inspire students by exposing them to transformative ideas and real-world problems shaping the future of aerospace.
