Bobby Benedicto
Associate Professor
Bobby Benedicto is jointly appointed in the Department of Art History and Communication Studies and the Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies, where he convenes the  working group. He is currently completing his second monograph,Fatal Sex: Queer of Color Negativity and the Erotics of Death, under contract with Duke University Press, and has begun work on a new project, The Aesthetics of Chemsex, supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). He is the author of Under Bright Lights: Gay Manila and the Global Scene (University of Minnesota Press, 2014), which received an honorable mention for the Ruth Benedict Prize in queer anthropology and was a finalist for the Lambda Literary Award for LGBT Studies. His research has also been supported by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC), the ICI Berlin Institute for Cultural Inquiry, and the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation. His recent writing has appeared in Postmodern Culture,differences,Society & Space, and GLQ: A Journal of Lesbian and Gay Studies.

Graduate Supervision
I welcome prospective graduate students who wish to work on projects relating to death and sexuality, psychoanalysis and critical theory, film and visual culture, and other related topics.
