Description:

Join us for a special screening of Montréal, Ma Belle, as part of the Centre for Global Chinese Studies (CGCS) Chinese Culture Week.

Directed by Xiaodan He, Montréal, Ma Belle follows Feng Xia, a 53-year-old Chinese immigrant & mother in Montreal who decides, for the first time, to pursue a romantic relationship with a young Québécoise woman named Camille. As Xia’s journey of forbidden love and long-overdue self-discovery is deeply complicated by existing family obligations to family & children, the film portrays an intimate narrative of desire, responsibility, migration, and emotional constraint – highlighting the often-unspoken tensions faced by immigrant women navigating cultural expectations, family roles, and personal identity.

Following the screening, a roundtable discussion & reception with Director Xiaodan He will be held.
