Considerations Based on Fund Purpose

Conference, Event or Seminar

Used when a Professor, Director, Chair, or Dean organizes an event at 91˿Ƶ and charges registration fees.

Requirements:

  • Letter of intent or confirmation of funding source (or cheques)
  • Surplus/Deficit fund designation

Donation

All external donations must be vetted by University Advancement before submission.

Requirements:

  • Designation code
  • Funding source
  • Signed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
  • CESA approval if specified in the MOA (usually under “Approval and Promotion”)

Consulting/Core-Facility/Research Platform

Used when a Professor or Director sets up a lab or collaborates with external entities to generate revenue for self-financing purposes.

Requirements:

  • Letter of intent or confirmation of funding source (or cheques)
  • Surplus/Deficit fund designation

Courses

For self-financing courses offered by the University.

Requirements:

  • Course name


Note: These requests will be reviewed by Student Accounts in the New Fund Request submission process.

Startup Funds

Funds provided to new hires (professors) for research activities, typically funded by central administration or faculty/department.

Requirements:

  • Fund title (e.g., “Start-up Grant – Prof. Jane Doe”)
  • Copy of offer letter or Board of Governors letter

Other

For requests that do not fit into the categories above (e.g., operating funds, clearing funds, trust funds).

Requirements:

  • Approval from APB
  • Letter of intent and funding source (or cheques)
  • Surplus/Deficit fund designation
  • Agreements or letters, if applicable
