91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ

Black History Month 2025

As with past years, the Equity Team hosts two Black History Month events: the Opening Ceremony open to all students, staff, faculty, alumni, and community members, and the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Black Community Gathering open to Black students, staff, and faculty at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ to gather and celebrate in-person.

The keynote address for this year's Opening Ceremony will be delivered by architect Shane Laptiste. Laptiste is the principal and co-founder of the award-winning Studio of Contemporary Architecture (SOCA). His architectural interests investigate community informed architecture that is responsive to the cultural and spatial needs of the impacted users. He has a particular interest in the ways in which Black communities have and continue to respond to space and the environment. He is a licensed architect in Ontario and Quebec and holds BSc(Arch) and MArch degrees from 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ, where he also serves as a studio instructor.

Join us throughout the month of February for a variety of events organized by the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Equity Team and the wider 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ community!
