Message from the Chair
Welcome to the Department of Medicine! Our passion is excellence through leadership in our three domains: education, research and clinical care.
Our members are based at 91丝瓜视频鈥檚 major teaching hospitals - the 91丝瓜视频 Hospital Centre (MUHC), the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) and Saint Mary's Hospital (SMH). With more than 450 full-time clinical and research faculty, the Department of Medicine is subdivided into 13 University Divisions. Our full-time faculty is augmented by another >400 part-time, associate, emeritus and adjunct members.
The training of medical students, residents and fellows is a passion and focus. The Department of Medicine is a leader in education at all levels within the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. The Department is also responsible for a large number of residency training programs, in core internal medicine as well as in a large number of sub-specialties of medicine. Our strategic aspirations are to be a training centre of choice. Finally, through the Division of Clinical and Translational Research, more than 360 graduate students are supervised within the Department by over聽150 scientists.
We strive to be the most research intensive Department of Medicine in Canada. With more than $40 million in annual peer-reviewed grant support and more than $20 million in other research funding, the Department is highly research intensive. The Department boasts more than 90 full-time PhD faculty members who are involved in clinical, epidemiological, applied or basic research. A similar number of clinical scientists are actively engaged in research. We have world class research teams in TB, Venous Thrombosis, Hypertension with emerging world class teams in Pulmonary Fibrosis, Lethal Infections and Cardiometabolic Kidney.
