Bonjour and hello! I’m Jan C. Kwan, a third-year PhD candidate at 91˿Ƶ’s Faculty of Dental Medicine and Oral Health Sciences, supervised by Dr. Simon Tran and Dr. Thomas Nguyen. I joined the faculty in Fall 2023, and since then I’ve been actively involved with the MDGSS in several roles to support and advocate for our graduate community.

Our faculty is uniquely positioned through its research clusters that span basic science, clinical research, and population oral health. This breadth lets us see how discoveries travel across every level of inquiry, and helps each of us situate our own work within the larger oral health landscape, from a mechanism to patient care to real-world impact. As President, one of my priorities is to highlight the achievements of our graduate students while strengthening the resources that help them grow and leave the faculty even stronger than when they arrived.

I’m excited and committed to serving in this role, and I look forward to working together to expand our presence in oral health research across Canada and internationally. Feel free to reach out anytime, I’d love to connect.

VP Finance, Maedeh Mostanadi

maedeh.mostanadi [at] mail.mcgill.ca

Bonjour/Hi!

My name is Maedeh Mostanadi. I am a dentist from Iran and currently a Master’s student in Oral Health Sciences at 91˿Ƶ. I am passionate about making dental care more equitable and accessible for everyone. Now, I work under the supervision of Dr. Pascaline Kengne Talla, focusing on the experiences of older adults and their caregivers about the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) in Quebec.

During my undergraduate studies, I also taught art, which strengthened both my creativity and my attention to detail. I’ve always been someone who enjoys structure, paperwork, and keeping things organized, which is why the VP Finance role feels like a natural fit for me. Managing documents, tracking budgets, and making sure everything runs smoothly behind the scenes is something I genuinely enjoy.

Outside of academics, I love animals, yoga, painting, travelling, and discovering new experiences. These are the things that help me stay balanced and inspired while navigating graduate school.

As VP Finance, my goal is to handle our budget responsibly and transparently, and to make sure our resources create meaningful opportunities for all graduate students. If you ever want to connect or share ideas, feel free to reach out.

VP Communications, Negin Ghahramani

Bonjour/Hello!

I’m Negin Ghahramani, a second-year MSc Dental Sciences student, supervised by Dr. Amal Idrissi Janati. My current research focuses on developing a comprehensive and updatable registry of shared genetic risk factors between periodontal disease and colorectal cancer, a project that connects oral health, genetics, and systemic disease.

My path to graduate school began long before I arrived at 91˿Ƶ. Even as a dental student, I was drawn to understanding how scientific evidence can be applied to real-life clinical challenges. This interest deepened during my years of practice in Iran, where I worked in private clinics and public health centers. Managing a busy practice strengthened my leadership and communication skills, taught me how to work effectively with diverse teams, and showed me firsthand how research can translate into better patient care.

Since joining the faculty, I have contributed to the organization of Research Day 2025 and am currently part of the core planning team for Research Day 2026, helping coordinate communication across committees and supporting the development of a more structured and student-centered event.

As VP Communications, my goal is to ensure that MDGSS communication is clear, accessible, and genuinely helpful. I want students to receive timely updates, understand opportunities without confusion, and feel more connected to one another. Whether it’s sharing events, highlighting achievements, or improving communication across platforms, I aim to make our information flow more efficient and student focused.

Outside of academics, creating content on Instagram and YouTube allows me to share stories, build community, and connect with people beyond the classroom. Exploring Montreal’s multicultural neighborhoods has become one of my favorite ways to learn from others’ experiences and perspectives. Yoga helps me slow down and reset, and cooking has become a quiet way of connecting with home while inviting new flavors into my life here.
If you have ideas or suggestions for improving communication within our community, I’d be happy to hear from you.

Bonjour / Hello / Ẹ n lẹ́ o / Ndewo / Sannu

My name is Olubukola Oduntan, and I am a first-year Master’s thesis student at 91˿Ƶ. I’m supervised by Dr. Pascaline Kengne-Talla and my current research focuses on digital health and its ability to provide environmentally sustainable oral healthcare.
