The 2016 recipient of the Statistical Society of Canada Award for Impact of Applied and Collaborative Work is Jim Hanley, Professor, Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health, 91˿Ƶ; Associate Member, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, 91˿Ƶ; and Senior Scientist, Division of Clinical Epidemiology, Royal Victoria Hospital.

91˿Ƶ alumnus tagged to boost capacity and discovery in growing field

Dr. Robert Platt, Professor in the departments of Pediatrics and Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health at 91˿Ƶ’s Faculty of Medicine was officially announced as the inaugural Albert Boehringer (1st) Chair in Pharmacoepidemiology during an event held May 26 at 91˿Ƶ.

Antidepressant use in North America has increased over the last 2 decades. A suspected reason for this trend is that primary care physicians are increasingly prescribing antidepressants for nondepressive indications, including unapproved (off-label) indications that have not been evaluated by regulatory agencies.

Dr. Theresa Gyorkos has been named Director of the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) Collaborating Centre (CC) for Research and Training in Parasite Epidemiology and Control.  This is a renewable four-year designation based at EBOH.

As usual, teaching and mentoring were at the center of our activities in 2015; a year which gave us ample opportunities to witness the high quality of our graduate students and the unwavering commitment of our professors to our students.
