Public forum on Gulf Coast oil spill
You are to cordially invited to a public forum on the Gulf Coast Oil Spill, to be held in Adams Auditorium on Wednesday, September 29th, 2010.聽 The presentations will begin at 6:30pm and will run for approximately an hour and a half with discussion sessions and Q&A at the end. Professor Jundt, Professor Studnicki-Gizbert and Professor Opal, in the History Department will be presenting.
Professor Opal's area of expertise is colonial, revolutionary and 19th century American history. Professor Jundt's area of expertise is 20th century United States, cultural, and environmental history. Professor Studnicki-Gizbert's area of expertise is Graduate Supervision in Latin American History - Colonial, Environmental, and Global History.
Together they will be presenting both the political/legal dimensions of the Gulf Coast oil spill as well as its historical context. We hope that you are able to attend this event and serve as a representative of your discipline. It is very important to have various faculties and individuals represented at this Forum so that the overall experience may be enriched.
Too often are events such as this Oil Spill quickly eradicated from public discussion because they are no longer on the news. The effects of the Gulf Coast oil spill are still being felt and we need to gather together to learn why it happened and what the implications of this event are for such things as future deep sea drilling, the environment, the economies of the effect areas, and the international laws that encompass these actions.
Attendance is open to the public and we hope that all are able to attend and join in discussion of this event.
