In 2008, as seemingly invulnerable financial institutions suddenly crumbled, people struggled to comprehend the economic catastrophe. How did we get here? How can we get out of the predicament we鈥檙e in? And, most importantly, once we鈥檝e settled the crisis, how will we make sure it doesn鈥檛 happen again? William Watson, BA鈥�74, is Chair of 91丝瓜视频鈥檚 Department of Economics. He is known for his regular columns in the "National Post", the "Montreal Gazette", and the "Ottawa Citizen", and his appearances on radio and TV. From 1998 to 2002 he edited Policy Options Politiques, the magazine of Montreal鈥檚 Institute for Research on Public Policy, where he is a Senior Research Fellow. While on a leave from 91丝瓜视频 in 1997-98, he served as the "Ottawa Citizen" editorial pages editor. He won a gold medal for humour in the 1989 National Magazine Awards for a piece in "Saturday Night" and his 1998 book, "Globalization and the Meaning of Canadian Life", was runner-up for the Donner Prize for the best book on Canadian public policy.
