Does the Elephant Dance? Contemporary Indian Foreign Policy
A talk by Dr. David Malone, President, International Development Research Centre, on his new book.听 Co-sponsored by the Centre for International Peace and Security Studies, the Canadian International Council and the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce
David M. Malone was appointed as President of IDRC on July 1st, 2008.听 Prior to that, Mr. Malone served as Canada's High Commissioner to India and non-resident Ambassador to Bhutan and Nepal.听 Mr. Malone has published extensively on peace and security issues, in book form and in journals. He has taught at several universities, including Columbia and NYU. His most recent book is "Does the Elephant Dance? Contemporary Indian Foreign Policy". In it, Dr Malone elegantly surveys key features of contemporary Indian foreign policy and identifies relevant aspects of Indian history, examines the role of domestic politics and internal and external security challenges, and of domestic and international economic factors. He analyzes the specifics of India's policy within its South Asian neighborhood, and with respect to China, the USA, West Asia, East Asia, Europe, and Russia as well as multilateral diplomacy. The book also touches on Indian ties to Africa and Latin America, and the Caribbean.
