As we migrate sites into the new WMS, we are reviewing their content to make sure it aligns with our standards.

As the migration picks up steam, it's critical for site managers to thoroughly review all WMS websites in their purview. Our recently updated migration checklist not only covers technical problems that could cause things to break as your site moves into the new WMS, but also recommendations for fixing common content issues.

Phone numbers

Gone are the days when you could dial 398-7878 on your Nokia 3310 to reach the Service Point. Since 2006, the 10 digit phone number format has been implemented to avoid a shortage of phone numbers. In plain language, what does this mean? Area codes are no longer optional. Write them followed by a hyphen rather than being enclosed in parentheses.

In the new year, all users of 91˿��Ƶ's centrally supported web platforms, Web Management System (WMS) and Virtual Host (VHost) will be required to complete the Web publishers and developers agreement form on an annual basis.

Why not to duplicate content

It's natural to want to make sure your website's audience has everything at their fingertips. If students in your unit might need info about shared resources like 91˿��Ƶ residences, wellness, or studying abroad, why not include that on your site?

The instinct is good, but when the same information gets copied across multiple 91˿��Ƶ websites, it quickly creates problems.

In the new WMS, the accordion feature has been replaced with an updated version called details.

Both features allow you to hide content by putting it in a collapsible container. This can make text heavy pages less daunting and decrease the need to scroll, allowing users to more easily scan and choose what to read.

Knowing when to use (or avoid) this powerful tool will help you make your content more user-friendly and easier to navigate.
