UGME teaching excellence awards laureates

Two celebratory receptions to honour the recipients of the Undergraduate Medical Education (UGME) Teaching Excellence Awards for the 2024-25 academic year were held on the Montreal campus on March 17 and Campus Outaouais on March 31. These awards, launched in 2025, celebrate educators who have gone the extra mile to help shape the next generation of physicians.

The Montreal event brought together more than 50 attendees, including award recipients, their families, faculty leaders, and invited guests. The evening began with opening remarks from Lesley Fellows, MDCM, Vice-President (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences and Sabrina Fallavollita, MDCM, Assistant Dean of UGME.

In her address, Dr. Fellows emphasized the vital role of dedicated educators in shaping the future of healthcare and recognized the awardees for their outstanding contributions to teaching and mentorship. “Thank you to all the teachers who help navigate difficult moments and bring energy, hope, and promise to undergraduate medical education. Tonight, we celebrate your important role and dedication,” she noted.

At Campus Outaouais, the ceremony brought together graduating students, along with faculty and administrative staff, with students presenting the awards to the laureates. Opening remarks were delivered by Danyèle Lacombe, MD, Associate Dean and Director of Campus Outaouais. « Au-delà des compétences cliniques transmises, c’est une véritable empreinte humaine que les cliniciens-enseignants de l’Outaouais laissent auprès de la relève médicale, une influence durable qui façonne à la fois le médecin et l’apprenant. »

Class presidents from both campuses were invited to speak at the ceremonies; they reflected on the meaningful and lasting impact these outstanding educators have on their learning experience.

Congratulations to all the UGME Teaching Excellence Award laureates!
