Biography: 

Dr. Shirin Abbasinejad Enger is a Full Professor in the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology, Director of the Medical Physics Unit, and Tier II Canada Research Chair in Medical Physics. She is an internationally recognized medical physicist whose work advances precision oncology through the development of technologies that improves the accuracy, personalization, and effectiveness of radiotherapy for patients with cancer.

Dr. Enger earned her Ph.D. in Medical Radiation Physics from Uppsala University, Sweden, in 2009 and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Université Laval in 2011. At 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ, she leads a multidisciplinary research program spanning four major areas: artificial intelligence in oncology, brachytherapy technology, radiobiology and microdosimetry, and radiation detector innovation. Her team develops advanced treatment planning systems, novel radiation sources, radiation detectors and delivery systems, and AI-enabled platforms designed to personalize cancer treatment and improve patient outcomes.

A major focus of Dr. Enger's recent work is the development of multimodal oncology databases and artificial intelligence models for treatment-outcome prediction. These platforms integrate a wide range of patient data sources, including diagnostic imaging, digital pathology, pathology reports, radiology reports, clinical notes, treatment records, dosimetric data, laboratory results, patient clinical characteristics, and longitudinal outcome data. By combining these complementary data streams, her research seeks to uncover predictive patterns that can guide individualized treatment decisions, improve response prediction, and support more precise, data-driven cancer care.

Dr. Enger is also actively involved in professional service through national and international medical physics organizations. Her work has resulted in multiple patents, clinical innovations, competitive research funding, and recognition through awards and high-impact publications. Through her scientific leadership, mentorship, and translational innovation, Dr. Enger has made significant contributions to medical physics and is helping shape the future of personalized cancer treatment.
