Biography:

Dr. Mahtab Tavasoli is an Assistant Professor at the Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro), 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ. She obtained her PhD from the University of Alberta and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Dalhousie University.

Current research:

Dr. Tavasoli's research investigates how lipid metabolism governs neuronal function and vulnerability in neurodegenerative disease. She focuses on the role of phospholipid synthesis and membrane dynamics as key regulators of cellular homeostasis, integrating lipidomics, live-cell imaging, and metabolic profiling to define how disruptions in lipid balance drive pathogenesis in disorders such as Parkinson’s disease. Her work aims to uncover mechanistic links between lipid dysregulation and neurodegeneration and to identify lipid-targeted therapeutic strategies. In parallel, Dr. Tavasoli develops preclinical gene therapy approaches for rare genetic disorders of lipid metabolism.
