Rigby mentioned that the removal of Maduro was not necessarily a bad thing, given the rampant corruption and authoritarianism throughout his leadership. He emphasized a critical question: how much influence will Venezuelan citizens have in choosing the country鈥檚 next leader?
Rigby also underscored that the invasion represents a clear violation of Venezuelan sovereignty. He states that though the US successfully removed a dictator, it is not in Canadian interests to see our neighbour and ally intervene in another country in this way, and this may have serious consequences for future Canada-US relations.
Rigby spoke on this issue on The Andrew Carter Morning Show as well, stating that the UN Security Council does not have much power to influence or interfere in the US鈥� actions, as Trump鈥檚 administration has already blatantly violated another country鈥檚 right to sovereignty.
