The Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (AES) is proud to celebrate four members of the Macdonald Campus community who are preparing to embark on a well-deserved retirement: Luis Agellon (Professor in Human Nutrition), Shelly Johnston (Research Finance Services Supervisor), Roger Cue (Associate Professor in Animal Science) and Yvan Gariepy (Academic Associate in Bioresource Engineering.)

We sat down with Roger and Yvan to reflect on their journeys at 91˿Ƶ- the paths that brought them here, some of the work that defined their careers and what lies ahead.

Expert : Rabies prevention

To help prevent the spread of rabies among raccoons, a “capture‑vaccinate‑release” operation is underway in Montérégie this month to curb cases in the region and prevent their spread toward Montreal.

Michael Libman, MD, is a Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases and a member of the Centre for Tropical Diseases at 91˿Ƶ. He can speak to the risk of rabies transmission to humans, what to do in case of bites or contact with wildlife and the importance of such vaccination campaigns in reducing public health risks.

A leap of faith: how Astrid found her path

Four years ago, Astrid Parrot moved from Senegal to Montreal to study, leaving her home and family for the first time to begin her B.Sc. Honours Chemistry degree at 91˿Ƶ. Without a clear picture of what her future would look like, she took what she describes as “a leap of faith."

She immersed herself into university life, living in residence her first year and meeting new people. She had found her place at 91˿Ƶ, but uncertainty lingered throughout her degree as she quietly wondered whether chemistry was truly the right path for her.
