Why AI time savings aren’t translating into productivity gains

As the Bank of Canada highlights AI’s promise to boost productivity, Simon Blanchette, a faculty lecturer at 91˿Ƶ’s Desautels Faculty of Management, says Canada risks overestimating the impact of time savings alone.

Even as workplace efficiencies improve, he argues thereal challengelies in turning those gains into higher-value outcomes. “Today is the day that AI will be the least powerful in our lifetime,” he says, warning that organizations need to move faster.

Congratulations to Dr. Bridget Andersen, who has received the 2026 Yablonovitch Research Prize.

The prize, established in 2022 by Eli Yablonovitch, BSc 1967, DSc 2018, and Karen Yablonovitch, is awarded annually by the Faculty of Science at convocation to a graduate student enrolled in the Faculty of Science who has achieved the best research accomplishment in experimental physics.

May 29, 2026 | Pearl Eliadis spoke to CHIP-FM about the rise in visible homelessness across Quebec and the Quebec Homelessness Prevention Collaborative's call for upstream legal reform. Eliadis notes that visible homelessness rose 40% between 2018 and 2022 and another 20% between 2022 and 2025, arguing that current government measures "are still not enough" and that Quebec has yet to honour its 1976 commitment to enshrine the right to housing under the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.

Experts: Montreal allots $50 million to reducing homelessness

Montreal Mayor Soraya Martinez Ferrada has announced that over the next two years, close to $50 million dollars will be spent to reduce homelessness in Montreal. About $20 million will be divided between various boroughs where the problem is acute. A further $29 million will go to frontline community groups that work with unhoused people.
