The $25\,000 First Prize is awarded by a special committee of internal and external ju rors at the Schulich School of Music to an undergraduate\, graduate or dip loma student in the Schulich School of Music who demonstrates exceptional potential in the String Area. For the 15th edition\, the First Prize was i ncreased to $30\,000. The 16th edition saw additional generous scholarship offerings by the Schulich Foundation. The finalists who place second and third will each receive $15\,000 and $5\,000 respectively\, in commendatio n of their performance and participation in the Schulich School of Music c ommunity.\n\nThe Golden Violin\, made of pewter and gold plate\, remains o n permanent display in 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµâ€™s Marvin Duchow Music Library. Its recipient \, chosen by jury and a rigourous selection process\, receives a generous scholarship\, valued this year at $30\,000 as well as a smaller likeness o f the violin in the form of a 14-karat gold lapel pin.
