The 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Observatory records\, from 1874 to 1963\, form the backbone of Montreal’s weather records\, but currently only three (daily min and max t emperature and daily precipitation) out of over a hundred sub-daily observ ations are digitally available for analysis. The DRAW project\, a cross-di sciplinary effort within 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ undertaken with Atmospheric and Oceanic Sc iences\, Geography\, Library and Archives and the School of Information St udies\, is undertaking to transcribe the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Observatory weather record s through citizen science. The DRAW project aims to make the public aware of our rich scientific heritage at the same time as we rescue and safeguar d the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ observations for further scientific and research purposes.\n \nCollaborations with CEGEPs and high schools are also bringing citizen sc ience\, data rescue and real-world observations into Montreal area classro oms. Part of the student research involves looking at the historical impac ts of particular weather events such as storms\, heat waves or cold snaps. This leads to the question of how we reconcile historical instrumental an d descriptive observations with modern day weather observing to assess cha nges in climate\, climatic variability and the frequency of hazardous even ts in the St Lawrence Valley region on the scale of decades to centuries. \n\nMonday Oct 07/ 3:30 PM/ Burnside Hall/ Room 934\n DTSTART:20191007T193000Z DTEND:20191007T210000Z LOCATION:Room 934 SUMMARY:Rescuing 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s Weather: the DRAW (Data Rescue: Archives and Weat her) project and Reconstruction of Hazardous Events URL:/meteo/channels/event/rescuing-mcgills-weather-dra w-data-rescue-archives-and-weather-project-and-reconstruction-hazardous-30 0797 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
