His research group studies the biochemistry of crop a nd medicinal plants\, focusing on pathways producing health and defense co mpounds. They leverage this knowledge for synthetic biology efforts to pro duce high-value chemicals.\n\nDr. Dastmalchi received his Ph.D. from Weste rn University (2015) and completed postdoctoral fellowships at the Univers ity of Calgary (2015-2018) and Brock University (2018-2019). He has resear ch experience in the public and private realms at Agriculture and Agri-Foo d Canada and the biotech company Epimeron Inc.\, respectively\, where he s tudied diverse plants and pathways from soybean to opium poppy.\n\nAbout t he 4 o'Clock Forum Seminar Series\n\n91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences has tremendous expertise and opportunities for inno vations in research on agriculture\, the environment\, health\, food\, nut rition\, pests and parasites\, including from a biotechnology perspective. However\, there are limited opportunities for faculty\, postdoctoral fell ows and graduate students to share their common interests in these areas. \n\nIn order to bring together the Macdonald Science Community\, we have i nitiated a monthly seminar series—'4 O'clock Forum'—where faculty members and postdoctoral fellows are invited to present their work. Through these seminars on the Macdonald campus\, researchers and graduate students will have regular opportunities to be exposed to scientific advancements relate d to their own fields of research as well as other scientific areas. Gradu ate and undergraduate students can benefit from these academic opportuniti es\, all of which are aimed at stimulating critical discussions about cont emporary research and issues in the agriculture and environment\, to foste r increased interactions among the Macdonald faculty\, and to highlight ou r ability to deliver outstanding scientific contributions.\n\nPlease jaswi nder.singh [at] mcgill.ca (contact Professor Jaswinder Singh) with any que stions.\n DTSTART:20240125T210000Z DTEND:20240125T220000Z LOCATION:R3-048\, Raymond Building\, CA\, QC\, St Anne de Bellevue\, H9X 3V 9\, 21111 Lakeshore Road SUMMARY:4 o'Clock Forum: Silos of life-saving drugs in spontaneously dying leaf cells URL:/macdonald/channels/event/4-oclock-forum-silos-lif e-saving-drugs-spontaneously-dying-leaf-cells-354218 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
