The Gender Equitable and Transformative Social Policy for Africa (GETSPA) Project, hosted at the Institute of African Studies (IAS), University of Ghana, and funded by the Open Society Foundations, is a pan-African research, documentation, capacity-building, advocacy and networking project focused on investigating the trajectories, processes, and outcomes of social policymaking in Africa.

On Tuesday July 8 2025 (3PM), scholars of political economy will gather in Montreal just prior to the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics (SASE) annual conference. In the spirit of fostering community and generating interdisciplinary discussion, the LPE Collective invites scholars to network, share their research, and receive feedback over an afternoon workshop to be held at 91˿��Ƶ’s Faculty of Law.

Ottawa backs listing Black and LGBTQ workers under Canada's workplace equity laws

The federal government says it supports listing Black and LGBTQ people among groups facing systemic workplace barriers under the Employment Equity Act, CBC News has learned.

The Liberal government is backing the legislative change after a task force report recommended the move.

A source told CBC News earlier on Monday that Ottawa "broadly supports" that recommendation and others from a task force that reviewed the legislation. The government made an initial commitment Monday to modernize the act, the source said.
