In addition to a disti nguished law career\, he chaired the Commission of Inquiry into the Non-Me dical Use of Drugs\, and sat on the Supreme Court of Canada (1984-1988).\n \nGerald Le Dain was a tireless worker and a highly respected judge\, and yet\, in November 1988\, he was compelled to resign from the Supreme Court of Canada after a hospitalization for depression.\n\nCBC broadcast journa list Bonnie Brown\, LLB'95\, produced the award-winning 2018 radio documen tary on Gerald Le Dain\, 'One Judge Down'.\n\nRichard Janda\, Associate Pr ofessor\, Faculty of Law\, co-edited with Prof. Blaine Baker Tracings of G erald Le Dain's Life in the Law (91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ-Queen’s Press\, 2019). Copies of t he book will be available for purchase at the meeting.\n\nAbout the James 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ Society\n\nThe James 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ Society was formed in 1975. Its primary concern is to foster interest and appreciation of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ's his tory and personalities\, which are interpreted broadly to include current activities and impending developments - that is both past history and hist ory in the making. The Society meets four or five times a years for a talk \, followed by discussion. The Society covers the entire spectrum of McGil l life: academic and research activities\, student life\, and administrati ve activities.
