To register for the online session\, please use the Micro soft Forms link:Participants that are not part of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ Community are also invited to register with the Microsoft Forms link.In this 4-hour wor kshop\, participants will be introduced to the basics of programming in Py thon. Students will journey from the beginnings of creating variables and performing simple mathematical operations to writing code that can perform fundamental tasks and wrapping this code into functions. Participants wil l learn how to write the important building blocks that make up complex pr ograms.https://forms.office.com/r/VMLySTzQmiBy the end of this workshop\, participants will be able to:Store data in variables and collections.Perfo rm basic operations on these data.Use control flow and loops to write powe rful code.Define functions to create repeatable units of behaviour. Pre-re quisites:Basic computer science knowledge is strongly recommended. Attende es should be comfortable with the following terms: memory\, CPU\, variable \, control flow\, loop\, list\, collection. Some of these concepts will be briefly defined\, but prior knowledge is an asset. No prior programming e xperience is required to attend this workshop (although familiarity with a nother language may be helpful). To fully participate in the exercises in this workshop\, attendees should have a working Python installation and ei ther Jupyter Lab or another IDE that can open Jupyter notebooks\, such as Microsoft Visual Studio Code. Alternatively\, examples can be run in Googl e Colab online (requires a Google account). A document will be circulated to help participants install Python and set up the environment. **IMPORTAN T NOTICE: Attendance for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows is sub sidized by Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. All other attendees such as undergraduate students and interns are required to purchase a ticket to co ver organizational and staffing costs. To complete your registration\, you must e-transfer $10 (undergraduate student/trainee) $25 (staff) or $100 ( faculty) to workshop-micm [at] mcgill.ca within 24 hours of RSVP'ing to th is event. If we do not receive your e-transfer\, you will have given up yo ur spot.Online Event InstructionsSee Instructions DTSTART:20251113T193000Z DTEND:20251113T233000Z LOCATION:CA\, McIntyre Medical Science Building\, Room208\, 3655 Promenade Sir-William-Osler\, Montreal\, Quebec H3G 1Y6 SUMMARY:Intro to Python (Part 1) URL:/involvement/channels/event/intro-python-part-1-36 8577 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
