  Vice Dean (Acting)\, Education Scholarship and Strategy\, the Director of
  Schulich’s Centre for Education Research and Innovation\, and a Faculty S
 cholar at Western University.\n\n \n\nGrounded Theory Research in Medical 
 and Health Sciences Education: A Workshop\n	Grounded theory has become comm
 onplace in health professions education research\, but designing and condu
 cting a high-quality grounded theory study can be challenging. In this wor
 kshop\, we will explore the essential elements of a sound grounded theory 
 study\, touching on issues like sampling\, coding\, iteration\, and suffic
 iency. We will discuss strategies for raising the level of analysis from t
 he categorical to the conceptual. And we will examine some controversies r
 elated to the methodology\, including the use of sensitizing concepts\, th
 e role of a literature review\, and the expectations for a “theory” as a p
 roduct.\n\n \n
