Canada Graduate Research Scholarship Doctoral (CGRS D)


Important reminders -

  • Applicants of any citizenship are now eligible to apply, but non-Canadians not holding "protected persons status", must be registered in their doctoral program for Fall 2026.

  • Eligibility window extended. Number of months in programis now up to 36 months for ALL applicants.

  • Units to receive individualized quota from GPS via email in August 2026.


Canada's three federal granting agencies have launched the Canada Graduate Research Scholarships - Doctoral (CGRS D) Program and include a common webpage, harmonized application timeline, and program descriptions.

  • Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR)
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC)
  • Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC)

Students will still apply via each agency specific web site linked from the new . Application portals open 08 July for CIHR & SSHRC and 09 July for NSERC.

GPS will download all applications and forwardto all Academic Units via Sharepoint by 21 SEPTEMBER end of day.
