What to Expect:
The symposium will showcase real-world examples that have aimed to reduce health inequities driven by racism and structural discrimination. Participants will have the opportunity to learn from evidence-informed and community-driven approaches that can be adapted across diverse settings.
The event will feature presentations, fireside chats, and panel discussions by our four local partners:
- CIES Salud Sexual, Reproductiva e Integral: Analyzing the structural and social drivers of material and child health equity among Indigenous communities in El Alto, Bolivia.
- Dalit Lives Matter Global Alliance: Investigating the successes and limitations of structural interventions addressing caste-based discrimination in Madhesh Province, Nepal
- Iyaleta Research Association: Examining the impacts of policies and programs aiming to improve Black health equity in Brazil.
- Kenya Medical Research Institute: Improving health outcomes for ethnically marginalized communities through devolution in Kenya.
To enhance accessibility and global participation, live interpretation will be available in, Portuguese, Nepali, and Spanish. The symposium will also be recorded, allowing participants to access the sessions beyond the event dates.
Certificates of participation will be provided to registered attendees.
What is STRIDE?
STRIDE is a collaborative research initiative aimed at identifying and studying settings that have intentionally aimed to reduce health inequities driven by racism and structural discrimination using quantitative and qualitative methods. The STRIDE Consortium examines health equity improvements across four diverse settings in Bolivia, Brazil, Kenya, and Nepal, with each study led by local in-country research partners.
This initiative is informed by research grounded in the Lancet Commission on Racism, Structural Discrimination and Global Health, which sought to establish the evidence base for understanding how racism operates as a fundamental determinant of health.
