Description of Event:
Please join us for a conversation with writer and filmmaker?Curtis Chin, co-founder and former Executive Director of the Asian American Writers' Workshop in New York City.?Maria Hwang?(East Asian Studies, Institute for Gender, Sexuality, and Feminist Studies) and?Jeremy Tai?(History and Classical Studies) will lead a discussion of Chin's career, exploring diasporic identity, creative work, and social justice activism.
The event is part of Chin's Building Bridges book tour for his recent memoir?Everything I Learned, I Learned in a Chinese Restaurant?(2023) about growing up Asian American in Detroit and coming out to his working-class immigrant family. We will hold an advanced screening of his latest film?Warren King: King of Cardboard?as well.
