91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ’s Facilities Management and Ancillary Services (FMAS) has mandated Ascenseur Adams Elevator Inc. to carry out Project 25-016 – Macdonald-Harrington Hall, Elevator 22 Replacement.

The project consists of replacing Elevator 22 and its associated mechanical equipment to improve reliability, accessibility, and safety.

Scope of work

The goal of this project is to replace Elevator 22 and modernize its mechanical and interior components.

• Elevator cabin: Removal and replacement of all interior cabin finishes.
• Accessibility upgrades: Installation of new call buttons to meet accessibility height standards.
• Safety improvements: Installation of a cabin camera.
• Mechanical systems: Replacement of all elevator mechanical equipment.
• Mechanical room: Installation of a cooling unit and painting of the mechanical room floors.
• Electrical infrastructure: Installation of conduit in various locations for electrical wiring and connection to the data room.

Impact on occupants

• Access to spaces: Contractor access to areas outside the construction zone will be coordinated in advance with the Building Director and occupants.
• Work zone: Construction areas will be clearly delineated.
• Elevator outage: Elevator 22 will not be operational during September 2026. Some activities may need to be temporarily relocated.
• Noise: Low levels of noise are expected, primarily in the basement level.
• Service interruptions: Certain activities may require temporary interruptions to electrical, data, or ventilation services. Building users will be notified in advance of any planned shutdowns.

Safety measures

Core drilling for the installation of electrical conduits in asbestos-containing materials is scheduled during the summer of 2026.

All work involving asbestos-containing materials will be carried out in accordance with established asbestos and silica safety protocols. This phase of the project is expected to be completed by mid-August 2026.

Protective measures will include specialized HEPA vacuum equipment, specialized cleaning procedures, and inspections before and during the work, overseen by our construction and safety manager.
