Construction Starts: McIntyre Medical Building – Renovation of the 6th floor

91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓÆµ has mandated Les Constructions Serbec Inc. to carry out Project 25-001, which involves the renovation of the 6th floor of the McIntyre Building as part of the Medicine cohort increase initiative. This work will reconfigure the existing floor to accommodate seven new hybrid classrooms dedicated to Clinical Skills Training, integrating in-person instruction with educational technology.

The project will also include the creation of a student lounge, administrative support spaces, and dedicated storage areas, ensuring that the floor functions as a complete and supportive academic environment. Once completed, the renovated space will enhance teaching capacity, improve functionality, and better support students, faculty, and staff involved in clinical education.

Scope of work

  • Renovation and reconfiguration of the 6th floor layout.
  • Construction of seven Clinical Skills Training small-group hybrid classrooms.
  • Installation of infrastructure to support technology-enabled instruction.
  • Development of a student lounge area.
  • Creation of administrative support spaces.
  • Addition of dedicated storage areas.

Impact on occupants

  • Noisy work and vibration will be coordinated in advance with users.
  • Some work may require service shutdowns (e.g., electrical, water). Building users will be informed in advance.
  • All work planned for zones outside of the construction zone listed below will be planned and coordinated in advance with users.

6th floor:

  • Electromechanical work in the ceilings of hallways 6-HALL1, 6-HALL3, and 6-HALL4 will be required and coordinated in advance with users.
  • Work in bathrooms 6B and 6C, as well as stairway 6-STAIR1, will require temporary enclosures to be built and may affect movement within these areas.

5th floor:

  • Electromechanical work in the ceilings of hallways 5-HALL1, 5-HALL2, and the cafeteria will be required and coordinated in advance with users.
  • Work in bathrooms 5B and 5C will require temporary enclosures to be built and may affect movement within these areas.

4th floor:

  • Work in room 401 will require temporary enclosures to be built and may affect movement within these areas.

3rd floor:

  • Work in bathroom 3-WC1 will require temporary enclosures to be built and may affect movement within these areas.

1st floor:

  • Work in bathroom 1-STAIR2 will require temporary enclosures to be built and may affect movement within these areas.

Safety measures

All work will be performed in compliance with the appropriate asbestos safety protocols.

  • Safety measures include isolating the work area under negative pressure and using specialized vacuuming equipment.
