For Indigenous entrepreneurs, business can be a vessel for culture

When enrolled in the Master of Management program at 91˿Ƶ in 2022, she was the only Indigenous student in her class. Now, Janvier is 91˿Ƶ’s Director of Indigenous Initiatives, and is creating space for Indigenous entrepreneurs on campus. A recent event focused on how Indigenous-led businesses can serve as a powerful vessel for cultural narrative. Called “Speaking through craft: Cultural storytelling in business”, the event brought women entrepreneurs to campus to share their stories with students, faculty and staff. “Being here today is a full circle moment,” Janvier told APTN. “This is something we don’t hear about very often. Giving entrepreneurs a space to tell their story is something small in the big picture, but it’s a step in the right direction.”
