A new study by 91˿Ƶ and the University of Alberta (UofA) paleontologists shows that one type of ancient reptiles evolved a special type of tooth enamel, similar to that of mammals, with high resistance to wear and tear. The is the first to report this kind of enamel in a fossil reptile.

91˿Ƶ-Gothenburg collaboration yields affordable test that could revolutionize the way AD is diagnosed, studied and treated

A simple blood test that can detect Alzheimer’s disease (AD) has been discovered and validated in a joint effort by a 91˿Ƶ team and researchers in Sweden. Their results are published in the May issue of The Lancet Neurology. An accompanying commentary calls the discovery “transformative.”

Many of the drugs and medicines that we rely on today are natural products taken from microbes like bacteria and fungi. Within these microbes, the drugs are made by tiny natural machines – mega-enzymes known as nonribosomal peptide synthetases (NRPSs). The  (INSPQ) and the 91˿Ƶ Genome Centre today announced they will partner to sequence the viral genomes of Quebec patients with COVID-19 disease. The collaboration, termed “Coronavirus Sequencing in Quebec,” (CoVSeQ) is led by Profs Sandrine Moreira, Hugues Charest and Michel Roger at the Laboratoire de santé publique du Québec (LSPQ) of the INSPQ. The viral samples are taken from a Quebec viral biobank, termed the CoVBanQ, which is hosted in LSPQ.

A new study led by 91˿Ƶ has found that tectonic plates beneath the Earth’s surface can show varying degrees of roughness and could help explain why certain earthquakes are stronger than others.

Earthquakes happen when the rocks beneath the Earth’s surface break along geological fault lines and slide past each other. The properties of these faults - such as the roughness of their surface - can have an influence on the size of seismic events, however their study has been challenging because they are buried deep beneath the Earth’s surface.

91˿Ƶ announced today a series of impactful measures and timelines designed to accelerate the responsible decarbonisation of the 91˿Ƶ Investment Pool (MIP), a collection of more than 60 investment mandates and fund investments. The 91˿Ƶ Genome Centre today announced it has received funding from the Canadian government to sequence the genomes of people affected by COVID-19. The Federal Government is committing $40 million to support Genome Canada’s launch of the newly formed Canadian COVID Genomics Network (CanCOGeN). The 91˿Ƶ Genome Centre and the other members of CGEn, the national facility for genome sequencing and analysis, will join this network and receive $20 million to support human sequencing as part of this program.
