 012\nAbstract\nTroponin which is located on the thin filament of the cardi
 ac\ncontractile apparatus is a critical initiator of the contractile\nproc
 ess.  This protein is made up of three critical\ncomponents: troponin C (c
 TnC)\, troponin I (cTnI) and troponin T\n(cTnT) which act in a concerted m
 anner to activate cardiac\ncontraction in response to its physiological tr
 igger rising\ncytosolic Ca2+ levels.  These proteins are relatively highly
 \nconserved in nature over a span of 400 million years from fish to\nhuman
 s.  However mutations in troponin proteins can be\nassociated with the dis
 ease hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is\nthe leading cause of sudden car
 diac death in young athletes. \nThe talk will explore the evolution of tro
 ponin as well describe\nits potential role in sudden cardiac death.\n \n
