 ies in the digital arts and\ndigital humanities research domains represent
 s a fast-growing area\nof scholarly activity. The 'Structural Analysis of 
 Large Amounts of\nMusic Information' (SALAMI) project is an excellent exam
 ple of the\nfruitful union of classic musicology and e-science. SALAMI is 
 a\nmultinational (i.e.\, 91˿����Ƶ\, Oxford\, and Illinois) and\nmultidiscipl
 inary (i.e.\, music theory\, library science\, and\ncomputer science) digi
 tal humanities research collaboration.\nExploiting 250\,000 hours of compu
 te time donated by the National\nCenter for Supercomputing Applications (N
 CSA) at the University of\nIllinois\, the SALAMI project is conducting the
  structural analysis\nof some 20\,000 hours (i.e.\, roughly 2.3 years) of 
 music audio.\nThus\, the SALAMI team is undertaking analyses of music stru
 ctures\nat a scale that no individual human scholar could ever hope to\nun
 dertake. This talk will also contextualize the SALAMI project\nwithin the 
 broader frameworks of the ongoing “Networked Environment\nfor Music Analys
 is” (NEMA) and the “Music Information Retrieval\nEvaluation eXchange” (MIR
 EX) projects. The motivations\, goals and\ndevelopments of these three int
 errelated projects are presented to\nhelp illustrate the kinds of question
 s being explored by music\ninformatics scholars and the roles that the e-s
 cience suite of\ntools\, including high-performance computing\, semantic w
 eb and\nLinked Data techniques\, can play in answering those questions.\n
