 ' Among the movie's highlights are a surrealistic\nvisit with little broth
 er Randy to a department store Santa\, and\nthe childlike mixture of delig
 ht\, pride\, and awe with which\nRalphie's dad takes possession of a spect
 acularly gaudy prize he's\nwon in a radio contest. Darren McGavin playing 
 Ralphie’s dad gives\nus a terrific performance of his splendid comic work 
 as a\nmiddle-aged-kid-turned-patriarch who alternates between grown-up\nte
