DESCRIPTION:Nemtsov’s program combines works by several European Jewish\nco
 mposers who established themselves as important representatives\nof the Je
 wish national movement in music and of the musical\nmodernity of the first
  decades of the twentieth century. To escape\nanti-Semitic persecutions th
 ey were forced to flee to the New\nWorld. Their compositions fell into obl
 ivion and were recently\nrediscovered. Their music is a valuable enrichmen
 t of today’s\nconcert repertoire. Jascha will also play a work by the Russ
 ian –\nnon-Jewish – composer Vsevolod Zaderatsky. This highly gifted\nmusi
 cian spent his whole life in Russia suffering under political\npersecution
  and spent many years in prison and in the Gulag. The\nperformance of his 
 music was prohibited during his life time.\nJascha is the first pianist to
  perform it now outside of\nRussia.\nAbout Jascha Nemtsov: Jascha was born
  in\nMagadan (Russia). He studied piano at the St. Petersburg\nConservator
 y (Concert Diploma with distinction). He currently lives\nin Germany. Jasc
 ha’s repertoire focuses primarily on Jewish and\nRussian composers of the 
 20th century. He has produced 26 CDs as a\nsoloist and with partners David
  Geringas (violoncello)\, Tabea\nZimmermann (viola)\, Dmitry Sitkovetsky (
 violin)\, the Vogler Quartet\nand others. His CDs have been awarded many d
 istinctions including\n“Disc of the Month April 2006” (BBC Music Magazine)
  and the German\nRecord Critics Prize (2007). Jascha Nemtsov is a member o
 f the\nSchool of Jewish Studies at the University of Potsdam and Academic
 \nDirector of the Cantorial School of the Abraham Geiger College\n(Berlin/
