Portraits\,\nwhich we re typically produced by commission\, construct an image of\nthe doctor as an exceptional individual\, projecting an aura of\nrespectability and aut hority. Cartoons and scenes\, however\, offer a\nmore satirical view\, pok ing fun and critiquing medical men and\ntheir relationships with patients. \nStraddling the disciplines of art and science\, this exhibition\ndraws t ogether a variety of material that is rich in both\nhistorical significanc e and artistic merit. In doing so\, it sheds\nlight on the cultural proces s of identity construction: how the\nimage of 'the doctor' (both individua l and collective) has been\nhistorically created through visual means.\nTh e exhibition is guest curated by Chelsea E. Clarke\, an art\nhistorian who recently catalogued the Osler Library's print\ncollection.\nAccessible Mo ndays-Fridays\, 10am to 6pm. Free\nentrance.\n \n DTSTART:20110915T160000Z DTEND:20120401T220000Z LOCATION:McIntyre Medical Building\, CA\, QC\, Montreal\, H3G 1Y6\, 3655 pr omenade Sir William Osler SUMMARY:The Face of Medicine: Portraits\, Cartoons and Scenes from the Osle r Library Prints Collection URL:/channels/event/face-medicine-portraits-cartoons-a nd-scenes-osler-library-prints-collection-177391 END:VEVENT END:VCALENDAR
