DESCRIPTION:The exhibition of prints drawn from the recently digitized Osle
 r\nLibrary Prints Collection of 2\,500 images offers a fascinating look\ni
 nto the history of medicine through popular imagery. Portraits\,\nwhich we
 re typically produced by commission\, construct an image of\nthe doctor as
  an exceptional individual\, projecting an aura of\nrespectability and aut
 hority. Cartoons and scenes\, however\, offer a\nmore satirical view\, pok
 ing fun and critiquing medical men and\ntheir relationships with patients.
 \nStraddling the disciplines of art and science\, this exhibition\ndraws t
 ogether a variety of material that is rich in both\nhistorical significanc
 e and artistic merit. In doing so\, it sheds\nlight on the cultural proces
 s of identity construction: how the\nimage of 'the doctor' (both individua
 l and collective) has been\nhistorically created through visual means.\nTh
 e exhibition is guest curated by Chelsea E. Clarke\, an art\nhistorian who
  recently catalogued the Osler Library's print\ncollection.\nAccessible Mo
