DESCRIPTION:In response to a number of highly publicized attacks on people
 \nby 'pit bull'-type dogs\, several provincial and municipal\nlegislatures
  have enacted Breed Specific Legislation. This\nlegislation ranges from re
 strictions and conditions on the\nownership of certain breeds to outright 
 bans\, and often establishes\na legal presumption that certain breeds are 
 prima facie\n'dangerous'. Breed Specific Legislation has been the target o
 f a\nnumber of legal challenges\, both in Canada and abroad.\nThe Student 
 Animal Legal Defense Fund at 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ will host an\ninterdisciplinary panel 
 discussion on Breed Specific Legislation.\nDrawing on their unique experti
 se\, panelists will critically\ndiscuss Breed Specific Legislation and the
  various scientific\,\npolicy and legal issues it raises.\nAlanna Devine i
 s a graduate of 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ's Faculty\nof Law and the founder of the 91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ cha
 pter of the Student Animal\nLegal Defense Fund (SALDF). She is currently t
 he Director of Animal\nAdvocacy at the Montreal Society for the Prevention
  of Cruelty to\nAnimals (SPCA) and has been particularly active in the fig
 ht\nagainst Breed Specific Legislation in Quebec.\nNicholas Gilman has bee
 n working on behalf of\nanimals for over 26 years. His work experience ran
 ges from national\ndisaster relief to cruelty investigation\, consulting a
 nd shelter\ndesign. In 2006\, Mr. Gilman founded Humane Logic\, a business
 \nconsulting firm focusing on the animal welfare field. He is the\ncurrent
  Executive Director of the Montreal SPCA.\nDr. Enid Stiles obtained a Doct
 or of Veterinary\nMedicine from the Ontario Veterinary College and a Maste
 rs in\nClinical Sciences (Behaviour Medicine) from the Faculty of\nVeterin
 ary Medicine of University of Montreal. She is a founding\nmember of Veter
 inarians without Borders\, Canada and the current\nDirector of Canine/Feli
 ne Programs for this organization. Dr.\nStiles is also a practicing veteri
 narian at Sherwood Park Animal\nHospital in Beaconsfield.\nFor more inform
