Leyüze\nlived in Istan bul for 4 years and will provide some quick facts\nalong with “must do’” i n the city.\n\nLeyüze is from Adana\, a major city in Turkey on the Medite rranean\ncoast. She graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a\ndouble major in Finance and Economics\; worked for the Citigroup in\nIs tanbul as a wealth manager for 2 years\; completed a graduate\ncertificate degree in Green Business Management last year and\ncurrently she is enrol led in the MSc in Integrated Water Resources\nManagement program.\n\n\nIte m 2: Joshua Black\nThe City of Hamilton\n\nHamilton is a major city locate d in southwestern Ontario.  It\nis known mostly for two things: football a nd steel production.\nOverall\, Hamilton has a reputation in Canada as bei ng an\nundesirable destination. In reality\, however\, it is a unique city \nfilled with natural beauty. I will try to convince you that\, in\nfact\, the stereotype of Hamilton is not accurate.\n\nJosh Black grew up in Hami lton\, Ontario and attended the University\nof Victoria before graduating from York University with a BA in\nInternational Studies.  Josh is current ly enrolled in the MSc\nInternational Water Resource Management (IWRM) pro gram.\n\n\nItem 3: Luan Pan\nRobots\n\nMore and more new technologies are changing our lives and robots\nare becoming more common in life\, and spec ifically in agriculture.\nBut we rarely have the opportunity to build our own robots. Luan\nwill use a LEGO NXT education robot kit to show you how to build a\nrobot and what it can do.\n\nLuan Pan completed both her Bache lor Degree and Master Degree in\nElectronic Engineering in the China Agric ultural University\n(Beijing\, China) and started her PhD study in Agricul ture and\nBiological Systems Engineering at the University of\nNebraska-Li ncoln (Nebraska\, USA). She then transferred to the\nBioresource Engineeri ng Department at 91˿Ƶ. This is the second\nyear of her PhD study.\n\n\nI tem 4: Lucia Shuang Ye Qiao\nPhosphorus in Agricultural Soils\n\nNitrogen\ , phosphorus\, and potassium (N\, P\, K) are the three major\nagricultural fertilizers used around the world. Phosphorus\, a\nnon-renewable mineral\ , is often applied in excess to maximize crop\nyield. However\, excess fer tilization may lead to undesirable water\npollution. In addition\, the glo bal reserve of phosphorus is being\ndepleted so that phosphorus usage shou ld be regulated.  Before\nregulation is put in place solid scientific unde rstanding must be\nmade available and this is achievable through modelling and\nexperimentation. In this seminar I will give an overview of my\ncurr ent thesis project: its background\, methods\, and potential\nimplications .\n\nLucia was born in central China and immigrated to Canada at the age\n of thirteen.  After completing a BSc Environmental Science at\nthe Univers ity of Ottawa\, she is now studying MSc Bioresource\nEngineering at 91˿Ƶ because she wishes to put her knowledge and\nher passion for the environm ent into practical use.  Her\ncurrent thesis research focuses on agricultu ral phosphorus\npollution\, and she hopes to make a real contribution in t his\nfield.\n\n\nItem 5: Salima Rhemtulla\nInstrumental Hip Hop and “Beatm aking”\n\nHip hop music as a general rule consists of two elements: an\nin strumental track more commonly referred to as the “beat” and a\nvocal trac k known as the “rap”. The artist who crafts the “rap” is\nreferred to as t he “emcee” and the one who crafts the “beat” is\nreferred to as the “produ cer”. Sad\, but true\, credit is more often\nonly given to the emcee by th e general public\, whereas the producer\nusually goes unnoticed. The basic elements of “beatmaking” will be\nintroduced in this presentation with th e intent of raising\nawareness on the creation of instrumental music and t he role of the\n“producer” in hip hop.\n\nSalima is currently studying at 91˿Ƶ to attain a Master degree in\nIntegrated Water Resources Management . She earned her Bachelor of\nCommerce degree in Finance and Risk Manageme nt at the University of\nCalgary in Alberta\, and has worked for more than five years as a\nJoint Venture Auditor in the Oil and Gas Industry.
