 munication Studies\, 91˿����Ƶ\, will\nopen the Osler Library’s la
 test exhibition by discussing the visual\nculture of Heliotherapy\, an anc
 ient practice of total bodily\nexposure to sunlight\, and Phototherapy\, a
 n electric light therapy\npioneered in the 1890s.  How heliotherapeutic an
 d\nphototherapeutic practices were disseminated and popularized within\nth
 e history and visual culture of light therapeutics during the\nearly twent
 ieth century will be explored using illustrated texts\nand objects from th
 e Osler Library’s collection – so too will\nthemes of pleasure and discomf
 ort\, ancient and modern\, and the\nnatural and artificial.  The lecture w
 ill be followed by a\nguided tour of the exhibition at the Osler Library.
