 d Pea\n\nIn temperate regions of Canada protein and vegetable oil producti
 on\nis mainly achieved by growing soybean (Glycine max) as a dual\npurpose
  crop.  In cooler regions canola (Brassica napus) and\nfield pea (Pisum sa
 tivum) fulfill the same functions. The field pea\ncultivated area has been
  expanding since 1977\, but this crop has\nnever been considered as a seri
 ous source of lipids.\nThe aim of this project is to develop field peas in
 to a novel\noilseed crop that for oil and protein production in the less\n
 temperate areas of Canada.\n\nEhsan completed his undergraduate degree in 
 Agricultural\nEngineering (crop science and plant breeding) in Iran and hi
 s MSc\nin Plant Genetics in the Ukraine. He then moved to Canada and is\nc
 urrently an MSc srudent in Bioresource Engineering.\n\n\nItem 2: Seminar b
 y Justina Amissah\nAKWAABA\n\n‘AKWAABA’ is the first word foreigners are l
 ikely to hear when they\nvisit Ghana. It means ‘welcome’ in the Ghanaian l
 anguage Twi. This\nexpresses the warm and friendly nature of Ghanaians and
  their\neagerness to entertain as well as share their culture with their\n
 guests. Justina is going to give a short tour of Ghanaian culture\nand a f
 ew tips to foreigners need to know when they get the\nopportunity to visit
  this West African country.\n\nJustina Amissah is a Ghanaian who graduated
  from the Kwame Nkrumah\nUniversity of Science and Technology\, Ghana wher
 e she studied\nBiochemistry. She is an M.Sc. student in the Bioresource\nE
 ngineering Department and has Dr. Prasher and Dr. Simpson (Food\nScience D
 epartment) as her supervisors.\n\n\nItem 3: Seminar by Yashi Huang\nMandar
 in vs. Cantonese\n\nMandarin and Cantonese\, the two main Chinese language
 s\, have\nsignificant differences and unique development trends. These\ndi
 fferences will be the focus of this presentation as well as\nproviding sug
 gestions to those who are new to the language and are\ninterested in learn
 ing Mandarin or Cantonese.\n\nYashi Huang was born and raised in Southern 
 China where she\ngraduated from the South China Agricultural University.\n
 \n\nItem 4: Seminar by Muhammad Azher Baig\nSeawater Greenhouses\n\nClimat
 e change\, rising world population and unsustainable farming\npractices ar
 e depleting world fresh water resources day by day.\nThis leads mankind to
  think about alternative resources for meeting\nthe demands of following g
 enerations. In this presentation a\nrelatively cheap and new desalination 
 technology for seawater\ngreenhouse will be discussed. It is mostly suitab
 le to the hot and\narid regions of the world such as deserts.\n\nMuhammad 
 Azhar Baig comes from Pakistan. He did his Master’s in\nwater resources en
 gineering at the University of Engineering\,\nLahore. He worked as a groun
 dwater modeling consultant for three\nyears. Later he joined one of the pu
 blic sector universities of\nPakistan as an assistant professor. Currently
  he is enrolled as a\nPhD student in the department of Bioresource Enginee
 ring under the\nsupervision of Dr. Shiv Prashar.\n\n\nItem 5: Seminar by S
 arah Mendelsohn:\nCape Verde Love\n\nCape Verde is an archipelago just off
  the coast of West\nAfrica.  The compelling history and rich culture of Ca
 pe Verde\ngive it a unique character that everyone should know about.\n\nS
 arah grew up in the US and graduated from the University of\nWisconsin wit
 h a major in Psychology and a concentration in\nBusiness.  The past three 
 years she worked in Cape Verde with\nThe US Peace Corps.  She is currently
  enrolled in the MSc\nIntegrated Water Res\n
