DESCRIPTION:It all began in 1972 when Dr Richard Cruess\, at the time\nChie
 f-Surgeon at the Shriners\, convinced the Shriners Board of\nTrustees to l
 aunch a research program.  These activities\nrapidly expanded and have evo
 lved today into a major research\ncenter focusing on pediatric musculo-ske
 letal diseases.\nIn 1990 under the joint sponsorship of the Shriners Hospi
 tals\nand 91˿����Ƶ\, the Cruess lectureship on bone structure and
 \nmetabolism was initiated to acknowledge Dr Cruess’ leadership that\nguid
 ed the development of the Shriners Research programs and their\nclose asso
 ciation with the Faculty of Medicine.\nThe Eleventh Cruess Lecturer is Dr 
 Gerard Karsenty of the\nDepartment of Genetics and Development\, Columbia 
 University Medical\nCenter (NY).  He is an outstanding lecturer and a\nwor
 ld-renowned expert in the endocrinology of the bone.  His\ntopic will be “
 Biology without wall: The new endocrinology of\nBone”.\n
