 ng Area\nStudies.\nAbout the speakers\nSusan Bissell first joined UNICEF i
 n 1987 in\nNew York in what was then called DIPA - the Division of Informa
 tion\nand Public Affairs.  She then enrolled in the University of\nToronto
  to complete a Masters degree in law\, economics and\ninternational relati
 ons. Following graduation\, she joined UNICEF\nSri Lanka\, working on educ
 ation and CEDC - children in especially\ndifficult circumstances - issues.
  Susan moved to Bangladesh and\ncontinued to work in UNICEF with a focus o
 n CEDC and education and\nchild labour.\n\nSusan returned to UNICEF in 200
 1 as the Chief of Child Protection\nin India. In 2004\, she transferred to
  the Innocenti Research Center\nwhere she managed the Implementing Interna
 tional Standards Unit.\nSusan managed a number of reports including a 62-c
 ountry study on\nthe implementation of the general measures of the UN Conv
 ention on\nthe Rights of the Child\, and global research on the Palermo\nP
 rotocol and child trafficking. As member of the Editorial Board of\nthe re
 port of the UN Secretary General's Study on Violence Against\nChildren whi
 ch was released in 2006\, Susan has also been involved\nin follow-up activ
 ities that will advance the implementation of the\nrecommendations of the 
 UN Study.\nNadja Pollaert received her diploma in\nInternational Relations
  from the Institut d'études\npolitiques in Paris. She received a Master's 
 degree from the\nUniversity of Montréal\, having studied the integration o
 f North\nAfrican Muslim women in a post colonial context.  As\nCoordinator
  of the Committee to Aid Refugees in Montréal\,\nMs. Pollaert defended hum
 an rights and advocated for asylum seekers\nin Canada. She has also been a
 n active member of Amnesty\nInternational.  Ms. Pollaert also worked as a 
 cultural\nand political affairs consultant for the Representation of the\n
 State of Bavaria (Germany) in Québec.\nNadja Pollaert is an active member 
 to the Board of Directors of\nMaison Buissonnière\, an organisation devote
 d to the\neducational principles of Françoise Dolto for children from 0 to
  4\nyears. Madame Pollaert is member of the board of directors of\nthe Can
 adian Coalition on the Rights of the Child\, member of the\nBoard of direc
 tors of Peacebuild  and president of the Board\nof Directors of Service d'
 éducation et d'intégration\ninterculturelle de Montréal (SEIIM) an organis
