In the\nspecific case of fluorescence imaging\ , the possibility of\nvisualizing single fluorescent molecules with exquis ite\nspatial and temporal resolution gave rise to the field of Single\nMol ecule Spectroscopy (SMS). This technique has provided new\nparadigms in ch emical biology\, biochemistry and biophysics by\nrevealing unique informat ion otherwise hidden in ensemble\nmeasurements.\nA major interest in our r esearch activities is to expand SMS\nmethods to study and characterize nan omaterials and supramolecular\nsystems. In this presentation I will descri be our recent progress\non the single particle imaging of DNA nanotubes of various\narchitectures. I will also discuss our single molecule spectrosc opy\ncharacterization of liposome beacons\, liposomes encapsulating water \nsoluble conjugated polyelectrolytes\, with an emphasis on their role\nin biosensing platforms.
