 ackground:\nOver the last ten years\, there have been numerous additions t
 o\nthe body of international humanitarian and human rights law aimed\nat p
 rotecting the rights of children living in situations of armed\nconflict.
 \nYet practitioners\, actors and governments are often unaware of\nthe bre
 adth of these new instruments\, their methods of application\nand implemen
 tation. Usually\, their focus is on raising awareness of\nthe UN Conventio
 n on the Rights of the Child\, the tool most widely\nutilised and understo
 od by actors in the field.\nIn the specific context of armed conflict\, th
 ere is the\npotential for greater advocacy\, awareness raising\, monitorin
 g and\nreporting on a wide range of commitments and norms. Due to the lack
 \nof knowledge about the legal framework for protection of children\nin ar
 med confect\, as well as the tools for its implementation at\nthe national
  level\, many actors in the field fail to integrate new\nlaws\, resolution
 s and policies into their daily activities to\nensure the protection of th
 e rights of child victims\, who are often\nunwillingly used as actors.\nIs
  international law in a position to undo the practical\ndifficulties in ef
 fectively protecting the rights of children in\narmed conflicts today?\nPr
