DESCRIPTION:Over the past few years Evan Criddle (Syracuse)\, Malcolm\nThor
 burn (Queen's) and Evan Fox-Decent (91Ë¿¹ÏÊÓƵ) have been exploring\nvarious w
 ays in which some areas of public law may be explained by\npositing a fidu
 ciary relationship between entrenched authorities\nand the people subject 
 to them.\nThorburn has been developing this idea in relation to\njustifica
 tion defences and police powers authorized by criminal\nlaw.  Criddle and 
 Fox-Decent have been developing the idea in\nrelation to international law
 's treatment of jus cogens\, human\nrights\, and emergencies.\nThe point o
 f this informal workshop is to discuss objections to\nthe fiduciary theory
 . What the organizers really want is for\nparticipants to come with one or
  two objections. The papers have\nbeen circulated in via the Law Profs lis
 tserv.\nPlease send Prof.\nFox-Decent a summary of your objection(s) (one 
 page max) by 26\nMay. Participants will be able to outline the objection b
 efore\nopening things up to discussion. Summaries will be circulated ahead
